Just a quick note to tell you how delighted I am with my purchase (Home model). The installation went very smoothly … and it looks good too, even my wife likes it!
I took delivery a few months ago but I had to build a timber deck first - and that took me a while. But now everything is installed and I’m awaiting first light … if only the cloud and rain would go away!!

Many thanks to you and Joe for coming over and replacing the wheels on the dome the other day. It works very nicely now, and I am having to remember not to push to too hard, otherwise it whizzes past where I want it to go!
I found from my records that I purchased your third production observatory in September 1986, so it has now entered its’ 19th year in service. I wanted to let you know how pleased I have been with it over the years. It has done the job very well, firstly housing my 8” reflector and now the 14” Schmidt-Cassegrain Go-To instrument. I can set up for observing or shut down in less than five minutes, and the dome keeps out a lot of extraneous light that would cause me bother in my suburban setting. The two lockers give me all the space I need to store accessories, books and the like, and there is room to entertain visitors. Having such an unusual construction in the garden is a great talking point!
In all that time we have only needed to do two items of real maintenance – first to replace the repose and weather strips and now the dome wheels. Not much really in all that time, considering it’s out in all weathers. Talking of which, some years ago, we experienced a huge hailstorm with hailstones the size of golf balls and bigger and strong winds. Every single house in the suburb (including ours) had its’ roof either replaced or significantly repaired. Your observatory however showed not a single sign of anything unusual. There was no damage at all, a great testament to the design and manufacture.

“ I bought one today (a Sirius home model) and quality is excellent. I can definitely see and appreciate both the foresight in design and the excellence in execution. Very nice clean glass mold work as well as very good fit and finish. The glasswork is inline with that seen in high quality marine applications ( a very nice gelcoat and consistent glass thickness). “Yes, I have checked out (another dome manufacturer ). It is a nice looking product. However I feel the Sirius product is superior after doing a lot of research. One drawback that I heard from a few people regarding the (other dome manufacturer ) and (another dome manufacturer ) is that they are not pre drilled and pre assembled. What happened to a couple of people I know is that the parts did not fit together well and a lot of time and effort had to be spent to get the observatory to go together well. In one instance a person I know who is quite knowledgeable on observatories, domes etc. decided to sent everything back because in his opinion there was no consistency between many parts that should have fit together effortlessly. Maybe these people just got some bad ones. All I know is I haven't heard anything negative about the Sirius product. This is what I'm leaning towards.” M.B. USA

“I bought my home dome from Sirius some years ago. I hadn't seen one, I knew nothing about them, but decided everything I wanted from a dome had to be from outside the UK, and that I thought the Sirius was best for my application.
Having bought it I was delighted, and then became the UK agent. All the domes are pre assembled, and checked for operation, they are then crated and sent. When you get them, you just bolt them together.

“Regarding Sirius' customer service: they've been grand to me, and I've never actually been a paying customer of theirs. I have a Home model, and am very satisfied with both the observatory and my interactions with the folks in Australia. I purchased my observatory "used" from a private party, so I was never actually a paying customer of Sirius. Nevertheless, they promptly and happily helped me with a few problems that I had -- including e-mailing the user/assembly manual, and sending me a couple of small parts at no charge. “I have a mini-tower plus 17 inch CRT monitor, keyboard, etc in one (storage) locker. I have drilled a hole through the bottom of this for fairly thick (10df) coaxial cable. I have sat in the locker myself, (but with my head forward!). I also had a family in for a viewing night one time. The 5-year old got tired, (it was way past her bedtime!), crawled into the locker and went to sleep. It is extremely detailed and functional for multi-applications with all the professional requirements suited for research or institutional use. “ I have been very happy with the Sirius unit. After being in the Sirius for over a year, I realize now the (another dome manufacturer ) 6 footer would have been to small, and the 10 foot would have taken up more space than I really would have wanted. The only thing I would change if I had to do it over again is I would have put their dome on my building. Not that there is anything wrong with their walls, it just would have given me more room inside. My unit seats on a 8x8 foot deck so I have some wasted space on the corners.
